[Media Invite] Compass One Goes Green

In support of Earth Hour which was on the 24th of March, Compass One rolled out a number of green campaigns over the entire month of March. These green campaigns include welcoming shoppers to sign up for recycling and craft workshops, as well as participating in winning exciting vouchers and lucky draws.

Ms Sharon Tan, Centre General Manager of Compass One, hope that the mall's green initiative would bring awareness to the shoppers about recycling. She also highlighted that this was the first time the mall is doing such activities.

Clothes collection drive, "Don't Bin It, Bring It Here" encourages shoppers to donate their pre-loved clothes to a good cause instead of throwing them away into general bin.

This was the amount of clothes donated by shoppers as soon as the campaign started.

Shoppers get to gain more knowledge on recycleable items and can challenge themselves at a game booth - "Recycle Smart, Recycle Right".

Colouring craft workshop - "All The Colours Of This World" encourages little children to unleash their creativity. What an adorable sight!

I had the opportunity to learn some interesting handmade crafts over at the upcycling workshop station where we were taught in a small group to make our own custom-made tote bag, lip balm and bio-degradable soap.

For handmade soap, drops of flavoured essential oils can be added for nice scent.

Old toy figurines can also be added in for that fun look. The soap was completed within minutes after letting it cool and hardened!

I didn't know lip balm can be created so easily through DIY. Great gift idea for friends!

Giving old tee shirts a new life, turning them into tote bags was a fun and quick session too!

This top was previously too big for me so i stopped wearing for a long time. Really love how it is now as a tote bag!

While at the event, i was also given the chance to try out new dishes from Ichiban Sushi! In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the company RE&S Group launches a series of Mentaiko Madness menus across its various concept starting in March and for the months to come. ( For limited period only.)

[Media Invite] Singapore’s Longest Fruit Mosaic

Been away for way too long.. so allow me to backtrack a little here.. Went Downtown Gallery for an invited event some time ago (2nd of July) with my girlfriends to witness a record-breaking attempt. In celebration of International Fruits Festival, this attempt was made to set a record for Singapore’s Longest Fruit Mosaic and is done by close to 80 recent graduates from Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and Singapore Polytechnic. The massive 200-metres-long fruit mosaic creation were stretched along the entire length of Downtown Gallery, using a mix of red and green apples, lemons and oranges, forming vibrant colours on the road.

Following the event, the fruits are cleaned, repackaged and donated to communities in need, including Kampong Chai Chee Community Club, Bishan Community Club and Hougang Sheng Hong Family Service Centre.

In addition to watching the youths work on the mosaic, the public also joined a part of the record attempt by working on a section of the mosaic designated for the public. Fruit-themed pop-ups were set up by juice bar FRESHE, lifestyle and fitness app GuavaLabs, frozen natural yoghurt store smöoy and gourmet grocer and café THE PROVIDORE at Downtown Gallery Level 1. Complimentary juices, guavas, toppings and ice cream sandwiches were given out to the first 100 consumers who quote “Singapore’s Longest Fruit Mosaic” at any of the pop-ups, making it interesting and fun.

“It’s wonderful to witness an effort by our youths and community, led by Downtown Gallery, to create a new Singapore record,” said Patrina Tan, Senior Vice President of Retail, Marketing and Leasing of OUE Limited. “Downtown Gallery is designed as a place for people to commune, and this local record attempt not only offers consumers a bit of fun and entertainment over the weekend, but is also bringing our youths, families and communities together.”

In line with the URA’s long-term plans of transforming the Downtown Core area into a work-live-play environment, OUE Downtown has undergone major transformation to bring to life the three pillars of ‘Look Well’, ‘Keep Well’ and ‘Eat Well’ within the development. Singapore’s Longest Fruit Mosaic will be the first in a series of themed events and experiences hosted at the new Downtown Gallery to connect with and engage the community.

The Best Of You

In August, The Best of You movement showcased their beautiful exhibit at The Star Vista's Atrium for a week, allowing visitors to take time out and reflect on the people and events that have brought out the best in them.

Extremely glad that i was being introduced to this meaningful movement; a movement about taking stock of life's accomplishments and appreciations from our fast-pace, busy lives! In the exhibition are the showcases of many life stories and artworks from the public that touches people's hearts. Held in Singapore and Malaysia respectively, it was an intimate experience filled with inspiring art, films, sharing sessions and performances by local artists and personalities.

The Best of You movement is about finding quiet moments in our busy lives to take stock of our accomplishments and appreciate our lives through sharing of personal stories. While people shared their stories, many others were inspired and even empowered by their words. And with these stories, The Best of You encourages people to come forward and share theirs too, hoping that by doing so, these stories will go on to encourage and spur more people. Your story might just change someone else's life!

Started in 2014, this movement is powered by tributes from all walks of life that speak of courage, regret, community, love, encouragement, redemption and, most of all, empowerment.

Series of events and exhibitions are being held in various shopping malls and schools in Singapore, showcasing inspiring stories and artworks. Coming October 13th to 18th, their exhibition will be at Marina Square, Central Atrium! There will be many interesting and inspiring works showcase at the exhibit through drawings, crafts, and short film!

Take a moment, come forward to their exhibition and pen down your tribute to the ones that bring out the best of you! You will be surprise they are thousands of entries till date with tributes from all walks of life, so personal yet inspiring and empowering! It doesn't have to be anything great for even a simple "Thank You" touches the heart of others! The world need more of this!!

Apart from the many stories showcased on the board, i also signed up for arm knitting workshop by Klly, joining Janice. We had so much fun learning how to arm-knit!

Janice's a fast learner! Look how happy and satisfied she was! haha!
