[Food Tasting] Enjoy Eating House and Bar

Missing the time where we gather together as a full squad attending food tasting. Always enjoy the company of Jasmine, Shu Qing and Jessie. And one of those occasions was when we had the opportunity to try out dishes from Enjoy Eating House and Bar together. A post long overdue, but definitely still deserves a shout-out.

Enjoy Eating House and Bar is located at the heart of Singapore, in the very rustic Kam Leng Hotel along Jalan Besar with a retro restaurant theme. The owner and chef of the restaurant, Joel Ong, said it highlights the poignancy of the dishes they present as they are many of the dishes we grew up with as Singaporeans. He named the restaurant “Enjoy Eating House & Bar” as it evokes a certain nostalgia. With an undeniable passion for the art of cooking since young, Joel impresses his guests with his wok skills. He also ensures the food they serve uses the best and freshest ingredients for the best quality. All of their sauces are made in-house with no added MSG and the food is prepared to order so every dish is served freshly cooked.

The restaurant has a ZiChar-style menu personally curated that celebrates all the Asian influences that make Singaporean food so unique with four main signature dishes styled as the Four Heavenly Kings of Enjoy Eating House;

1. Brandy White Fish Soup – Made from scratch by boiling fried fish bones for hours on end to achieve a collagen-rich soup with a natural milky consistency. A shot of brandy elevates the flavour of the soup.

2. Singapore-style Chilli Prawns – Singaporeans may be more familiar with the crab version of this dish but this is a fuss-free version with pan-seared sea prawns. The sauce is Joel's own recipe and its flavour certainly packs a punch. As always, it goes great with fried Mantous.

3. Chef J’s BBQ Pork – One of Joel's very own creations. A Thai-inspired dish from his extensive experience. The texture and juiciness of the meat are what makes it such a crowd favourite.

4. Grandma’s “Te Kah” Bee Hoon – The Wok Hei and home-made tender braised pork leg shines through on this dish. A homage to Joel's dearly departed grandmother, the taste of this dish still brings warmth to his heart.

Another popular dish we love when we visited the restaurant is this Shiok Prawn Patties. The patty is crispy on the outside yet chewy and tasty inside it.

During this period of Circuit Breaker, their business is still on-going and is offering free island-wide delivery.
